MALACCA RIVER CRUISE


Malacca River Cruise  is the better way of seeing the sight of Malacca at a leisurely pace, in comfort and without breaking the bank.

Malacca River is where it all began, and it has played important role in Malacca history. Ride in Malacca River Cruise is just like exploring Malacca by using the back door.

Through this year, there have been many development, but at the same time, an effort have being made to preserve many of the historic buildings and bridges along the river.

Even the new buildings have been painted with colourful murals that brings the perspective about the Malacca itself.



There are two jetties, one of each end of the route. You can take the cruise from either of this jetty .


1. Muara Jetty
It is located next to the Quayside Heritage Centre, which is close to the Maritime Museum that easily recognised by the replica of the Portuguese ship 'Flor De la Mar'. Starting from here, the cruise will take you upstream as far as Taman Rempah jetty, where the boat turns around and bring you back to the starting point. The road trip takes about 45 minutes and cover 9 kilometres. The boat's recorded commentary will begin on the return leg of your journey, which is from Taman Rempah to Muara Jetty.

2. Taman Rempah Jetty
It is where the small spice garden is located, which is next to the Hang Jebat Bridge linking Jalan Tun Mutahir to Jalan Tun Sri Lanang. From here, the cruise will travel downstream as far as Muara jetty, where the boat will turns around  and take you back to the starting point. This trip also takes about 45 minutes and covers 9 kilometres journey. You will hear the recorded commentary as far as Muara jetty. On the way back, you might be treated to Abba's greatest hits or a similar soundtrack.



From whichever jetty you take, the boat will pass near the following landmarks :




  • Kampung Morten. A traditional Malay village and living museum. Some of the house, notably Villa Sentosa, are open to the public.

  • Pirate Park. A modest funfair with ferris wheel, swinging pirate ship, flying fox, rock climbing wall and trampoline. 

  • Ghost Bridge of Malacca. It is where the Japanese soldiers dangled the decapitated heads of local Chinese businessman during World War 2.
  • Kampung Jawa. A small residential and commercial area where the descendants of the original Javanese settlers still maintain some of their traditions.
  • Clock Tower. It is in the famous square of red painted Dutch buildings.
  • Jonker Walk. One of the best streets in Malacca to shop for souvenirs and enjoy the local speciality dishes.

OPERATING HOURS

Open daily from 9 am to 11.30 pm.
The boats will depart roughly every 30 minutes.



At nights, you can see the sights along the river are illuminated with colourful lights. While on the day, you will get the chance to see the murals at the buildings along the river. Perhaps, you should go when the sun is set, so that you can see both, day and night.
